Position Summary

The Technical Communication Program in the Purdue School of Engineering and Technology Indianapolis seeks applicants for a full-time Visiting Lecturer in Technical Communication. This non-tenure-track, 10-month visiting position (possibly renewable for a second year) includes teaching diverse students; engagement with the discipline, community, and profession; and service to the department, school, and university. Teaching load is 4/4 (undergraduate). Summer teaching opportunities may be available. Salary is competitive. The position will begin in August of 2019, subject to the availability of funding.
The Technical Communication Program, housed in the Department of Technology Leadership and Communication, offers multiple sections of technical communication courses for engineering and technology majors within the School of Engineering and Technology. In addition, the program offers an undergraduate technical communication certificate, a B.S. in technical communication, and an M.S. in technology with a concentration in technical communication.

Basic Qualifications

Required
* Master's or higher in Technical Communication or a related field
* Evidence of successful teaching (online and face-to-face) at the university level in technical communication or related field
* Evidence of successful teaching with a learning management system and other forms of technology that enhance learning
* An understanding of commonly-used software applications and relevant concepts in technical communication
* Excellent oral and written communication skills
* Certification to work in the United States
Preferred
Expertise/experience in several areas of technical communication:
* International/intercultural competence
* Working with diverse populations including non-native speakers of English
* Using current technical communication software applications
* Online teaching of technical communication
* Experiential/service learning
* Digital/social media/multi-media usage
* Successful innovative curriculum development
* Communication assessment processes
* Writing centers
* Human centered design/UX
It is strongly preferred that applicants have some experience working in business or industry workplace contexts.
