Description:
Clemson University's English Department seeks an outstanding scholar and teacher at the associate or full professor rank for an endowed professorship, the Roy Pearce Professor of Professional Communication. With a well-established and active research agenda, the Pearce Professor will inspire innovative and engaged critical inquiry, articulate the need for and value of public rhetorics, mentor junior faculty and students, and provide vision and leadership in support of various curricular and institutional programs, including a robust professional writing curriculum at the BA level, MA programs in Writing, Rhetoric, and Media (MAWRM) and English (MAE), as well as an interdisciplinary PhD in Rhetorics, Communication, and Information Design (RCID). The Pearce Professor will also work closely with the Pearce Center for Professional Communication and the Campbell Chair in Technical Communication to advance Clemson's highly regarded communication across the curriculum initiatives.
The Pearce Professor receives a salary supplement to foster promising research, teaching, or service activities related to professional communication and a reduced teaching load to provide time for advancing the mission of the Pearce Center and developing innovative learning initiatives in local, national, and international contexts.

Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have a nationally or internationally recognized research profile in any area of professional communication including but not limited to rhetorics of social justice, rhetoric and ethics, feminist rhetorics, rhetorics of race and empire, technical and scientific writing, rhetoric and composition, universal or UX design, and professional communication in global contexts. We are seeking a colleague who can complement and extend the research interests of a core faculty with excellence in rhetorical theory, technical writing, visual and digital rhetorics, game theory, public memory, feminist rhetorics, digital and print publishing, identity rhetorics, new media, entrepreneurship, the history and rhetorics of science, film rhetorics, and more. In addition to scholarly achievement, the successful candidate will demonstrate dedication to inclusive excellence in higher education, have a record of mentoring diverse faculty and students, and appreciate the value of interdisciplinary collaboration in research and teaching.
