SHSU is Hiring
The Department of English at Sam Houston State University seeks applications for two Assistant Professors of Technical and Professional Communication. Each 9-month, tenure-track position starts with the Fall 2019 semester. Applicants must possess the following:

  *   An earned PhD in Technical Communication, Professional Writing, or related field by August 21, 2019
  *   Experience teaching (as the instructor of record) college-level courses in Technical Communication
  *   Willingness and desire to teach Technical Communication in an online setting (preference given to those with online teaching experience)
  *   Evidence of excellent communication skills
  *   Evidence of an active research agenda that represents a diverse stance on technical communication. Relevant areas include diversity and inclusion, social justice, medical rhetoric, global technologies, constructing culture, supportive environments, or similar.

In addition to the above requirements, desirable candidates will have experience working professionally as technical communicators (industry/consulting).

Each chosen candidate will teach three courses per semester (face-to-face and online) and support SHSU’s emerging program in Technical Communication. Activities will include:

  *   Teaching the technical-writing service course, which is required by more than 20 majors on campus

  *   Teaching upper-level and graduate courses in design, style, digital literacies, proposal writing, and editing (among others)
  *   Teaching in the online Master of Arts in Technical Communication, which launches Fall 2019
  *   Cultivating and maintaining a research agenda
  *   Supporting the Department, College, and University through service

Technical Communication faculty teach in computer-based classrooms and have access to the Iris Technical-Communication Suite<http://www.shsu.edu/today@sam/T@S/article/2018/new-creative-space>. This creative space provides faculty and students with industry-standard technologies in audio, video, print, and digital document production. Iris features the following:

  *   Professional sound booth
  *   3-D printer
  *   Audio/video workstations
  *   Collaborative spaces
  *   Document folding and binding equipment
  *   Photography tools, including DSLR cameras, green screens, and softbox lighting
  *   Mobile productivity devices, such as iPad Pros, GoPro camera, and smartphone gimbles
