Greetings!

I am writing to encourage you to attend the Computers & Writing conference (C&W) at Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan, from June 20-22, 2019:
http://candwcon.org/2019/

There is still time to appear on the program by participating in the 20th annual C&W Graduate Research Network (GRN) on June 20, 2019, as either a presenter or a discussion leader: http://www.gradresearchnetwork.org/

Applications for GRN are due soon—by May 4, 2019. But the good news is that applying is a quick, easy process: http://www.gradresearchnetwork.org/submit-grn-proposal/

What is the GRN?

The GRN is a forum on the first day of the C&W conference dedicated to:

  * Discussing research projects and work in progress related to computers & writing (e.g., culture + technology, multimodal composition and assessment, digital writing centers, technical and professional communication, teaching and learning with technology, digital and visual rhetorics, technofeminism, technology and graduate training, digital poetics and literatures, digital archives, gaming pedagogy, etc.)
  * Assisting attendees in applying to graduate programs and preparing for the job market

Thus, the GRN welcomes:

  * Scholars pursuing work at any stage, from those just beginning to consider ideas to those ready to pursue publication
  * Discussion leaders who would like to facilitate engaging intellectual conversations about these projects and/or grad school and the job market

Who can participate in the GRN?

The GRN is open and free of charge to all registered C&W conference participants. Anyone interested or involved in computers and writing inquiry and/or graduate education should consider participating in this important event. We welcome both new participants as well as those who have attended the GRN before.

What happens at the GRN?

The GRN is a day-long event split into two parts:

  * The morning session consists of roundtable discussions, where researchers are grouped with established C&W scholars with related interests who facilitate conversations and offer suggestions for developing projects and determining suitable venues for publication.
  * Box lunch will be provided.
  * After the lunch, the GRN offers a job market and graduate program workshop that focuses on researching and securing a job in computers & writing (and its related fields of composition, rhetoric, and technical/professional communication) as well as advice on researching graduate programs that support computers & writing inquiry. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions of, get advice from, and hear stories about the job market from new and established faculty in the field.

Why register for the GRN?

  * The opportunity to network in this way with so many other new and established scholars in the field of computers and composition.
  * The chance to get your name on the GRN program (which can then be listed on your CV as a national conference presentation).
  * The proposal submission and travel grant application processes are quick and easy.
  * The people who tend to attend are smart, nice, friendly, and fun people.
  * The chance to win great prizes!
  *   Free food!
  * The eligibility for students and non-tenure track faculty to apply for travel grants: http://www.gradresearchnetwork.org/grn-travel-grant-awards/

Want to register?

Go to the GRN website and follow the instructions there: http://www.gradresearchnetwork.org/submit-grn-proposal/

  * Presenters: Complete and submit the online submission form to let us know you're attending, your interest areas, and a 100-200 word abstract of your project.
  * Discussion Leaders: Complete and submit the online submission form to let us know you're attending and your interest areas (so we can better match you up with presenters with common interests).

The deadline for proposal submissions and grant applications is May 4, 2019, at midnight (EST).
