*Position Title:* Assistant Professor of Writing: Professional Writing

*Department: *School of Communication - University of Central Arkansas

*Position Summary:* The University of Central Arkansas Assistant Professor
is responsible for teaching, research and service. This position is
governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy. The
position is tenure track and a nine-month appointment.

*Job Duties and Responsibilities:* The Writing Program, housed in the
School of Communication, invites applications for a tenure-track assistant
professor position beginning August 2020. Teaching load is 4/4 (12 hours
per semester). Responsibilities include teaching advanced courses in
professional and/or technical communication, rhetoric and composition, and
courses in first-year writing. The successful candidate must have the
capacity to teach, research, advise, and provide leadership. Preference
will be given to candidates who have training and experience in digital
and/or print media production, design thinking, working with community
partners, or related areas.

*Required Education and Experience:* Ph.D. in Professional/Technical
Communication, Rhetoric and Composition, Digital Rhetorics/New Media, or in
closely related field. Candidates must have a record of national, regional,
and local professional development. Applicants will have experience
teaching technical and/or professional writing and first-year writing. They
will also have a clear research agenda as well as familiarity with Adobe
Creative Suite or equivalent software.

*Preferred: *Additional interest in inclusive pedagogies and/or civic
engagement is valued.

*University, Campus, and Community Description:* Founded in 1907, UCA has
an enrollment of more than 11,000, of which approximately 1,800 are
graduate students. The university offers more than 90 undergraduate and 60
graduate certificate and degree programs, including seven doctoral
programs. The student body consistently scores above the national average
on the ACT exam. UCA is proud of its tradition of teaching excellence and
its contributions in research, scholarship, and creative activities. The
campus is widely acclaimed for its beauty. UCA is located in Conway,
Arkansas, a thriving city of approximately 65,000 in central Arkansas, and
thirty minutes from Little Rock. Conway is home to several major
industries, two private colleges, an excellent public school system, and
strong private K12 schools. Residents have easy access to the Ouachita and
Ozark National forests and pristine wildlife areas near the Buffalo
National River.
