Hi colleagues,

I'm pleased to announce an opening at Weber State University for a visiting
assistant professor (with the possibility of it becoming tenure track) in
technical and professional writing. Please share the following description
with anybody who might be interested.

The Department of English Language and Literature at Weber State University
(WSU) invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor in
Professional & Technical Writing. We welcome applications from candidates
with any specialization in technical communication, but applications that
demonstrate expertise in one or more of the following areas will be of
particular interest: project management, social media, digital media,
diversity, and online education. Expectations for this position include
teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, engaging in research, and
providing service to the program, the department, and the community.


Teaching load is typically four (4) courses per semester. This is an
academic-year 2020 – 2021 appointment with an expected start date of August
2020. Contingent on performance, the position may be renewed for an
additional two years; possible conversion to tenure-track. The successful
applicant will help shape the future of a well-established program through
teaching, research, and service. Salary is competitive, with a generous
benefits package.


The Professional & Technical Writing (P&TW) program offers a B.A. with an
emphasis in P&TW, plus a minor and post-baccalaureate certificate. The
program has received community-engaged learning designation, meaning that
students collaborate with community organizations on real-world projects.
The university’s Center for Community Engaged Learning has been recognized
by the prestigious Carnegie Classification for Community Engagement,
awarded in 2008.In addition to Professional and Technical Writing, the
Weber State University English department houses undergraduate programs in
linguistics, creative writing, literature, professional and technical
writing, writing studies, and a Master of Arts program.


● Ph.D. preferred in technical communication or a related field at the time
of appointment

● Evidence of teaching effectiveness

● Commitment to meeting the needs of diverse student populations and/or
reaching out to diverse communities

● Strong evidence of the promise of scholarly research and publications

● Two (2) or more years of teaching experience at the undergraduate level,
preferably in technical writing

● Experience teaching on-line and face-to-face

● Experience using learning management systems, such as Canvas

● Interest in establishing relationships with community and industry
partners
