Description

The Technical Communication faculty in the College of Integrative Sciences and Arts on the Polytechnic Campus at Arizona State University invites applications for a Clinical Assistant Professor, multiple year appointment effective for the 2020-2021 academic year. The successful candidate will provide instruction in Technical Communication courses in accordance with programmatic needs, will coordinate current undergraduate health communication courses, and collaborate with the Edson College of Nursing and Health Innovation to further develop relevant curriculum in medical/health communication. The Technical Communication program offers a Bachelor of Science, Master of Science, and a graduate certificate in Technical Communication, as well as an undergraduate concentration in User Experience. Course assignments will be at both the graduate and undergraduate levels, and may occur in a variety of modalities (online, on-ground, hybrid). The course load is determined by the faculty head and typically consists of four (4) courses a semester and may include  a course reduction for curriculum coordination, development, and collaboration with the Edson College of Nursing and Health Innovation. The successful candidate will also be expected to participate in service to the institution and profession as appropriate. This is a full-time, benefits-eligible, non-tenure track, multiple year academic year appointment for a term of more than one academic year, but not more than three academic years, and may be renewed.  Salary is competitive commensurate with experience. Candidate must reside in Arizona, or be willing to relocate.

Applications should demonstrate a commitment to high-quality student-centered teaching and to staying current with the practices, technologies, and scholarship in the field of technical communication. We seek candidates whose applications demonstrate the ability to teach a range of undergraduate and graduate technical communication courses. Ideal candidates will have expertise in health communication, medical rhetoric, or discourses of health and medicine. Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  *   Terminal degree in technical or professional communication or related discipline at the time of appointment
  *   Evidence of teaching effectiveness in college-level technical/professional communication courses or medical/health related courses
  *   Excellent written and spoken communication skills
  *   Demonstrated experience in health communication, medical rhetoric, or discourses of health and medicine
  *   Demonstrated expertise with technologies for technical communication practice and for teaching
  *   Ability to teach a broad range of technical communication or medical/health communication courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels
  *   Demonstrated record of continued professional development (e.g., conference presentations, service to the profession)
  *   Stated commitment meeting the needs of diverse student populations and/or reaching out to diverse communities

Desired Qualifications:

  *   Workplace experience in technical or medical/health communication
  *   Experience mentoring graduate (master’s) students
  *   Experience teaching online
