*Position summary*

The Virginia Tech Department of Communication invites applications for a
collegiate assistant professor in professional and technical communication.
The position begins in August 2020. Ideal candidates will have the ability
to teach undergraduate courses in planning, production, delivery,
transformation, and evaluation of communication content, especially through
digital channels, in workplace settings. Additional consideration will be
given to candidates with a track record of effective college-level
teaching, demonstrated proficiency in course development and assessment,
and business communication experience in how content (print, digital,
multimedia, visual, verbal) mediates knowledge, values, and actions in a
variety of professional contexts. Standard teaching load is three courses
per semester per academic year.

Application screening will begin October 21, 2019. Complete applications
include the online application form and the following supplemental
materials: a cover letter briefly detailing the applicant’s fit with the
job description and department; curriculum vitae; statement of teaching
philosophy with summary of teaching evaluations; and names, address, phone

*Required qualifications*

·         Ph.D. in communication, professional communication, technical
communication, digital media, information design, or a closely related
field. ABD applicants will be considered but must complete their doctorates
by August 10, 2020.

·         Evidence of ability to teach undergraduate professional
communication courses in planning, production, delivery, transformation,
and evaluation of content, especially through digital channels, in
workplace settings.

·         Demonstrated excellence in college-level teaching.

·         Evidence of experience in course development and assessment.

·         Business communication work experience in how content (print,
digital, multimedia, visual, verbal) mediates knowledge, values, and
actions in a variety of professional contexts.
