The School of Writing, Literature & Film at Oregon State University invites
applications for a full-time (1.00 FTE), 9-month, open rank tenure track
Assistant/Associate/Full Professor position.

Oregon State University seeks to hire a PhD in English or rhetoric and
composition, or a related field, to act as director of the Writing
Intensive Curriculum (WIC), a position that will comprise 50% of the
position description. The other 50% will constitute a typical tenured or
tenure-track professorial appointment in the School of Writing, Literature,

This individual will teach two or three courses/year in the School of
Writing, Literature and Film (which operates on three ten-week terms) and
be responsible for maintaining the WIC curriculum, reviewing course
proposals, organizing assessment with other faculty, and working with
graduate student interns. The successful candidate will have a primary
emphasis in writing studies with an interest and/or specialization in
WAC/WID. Experience in administration and institutional expertise is
expected. Successful candidates will have secondary specializations in
areas that meet extant curricular needs, e.g.:

   - STEM Writing,
   - Technical and professional writing,
   - Scientific and/or environmental communication,
   - English Language Learners (ELL), English as a Second Language (ESL),
   or transnational literacies
   - Digital literacies/rhetorics

The WIC program is a key component of OSU's general education program in
that every bachelor's seeking student at OSU must complete one WIC course
in their major. The WIC Director is responsible for faculty development in
the area of WIC instruction, for curricular assessment including serving on
the Faculty Senate's Baccalaureate Core Committee, and for outreach about
the WIC program. The Director oversees the WIC budget and typically
supervises a Graduate Assistant and an intern. The WIC Advisory Board is
available for consultation and assistance with strategy and gaining a broad
campus perspective. The WIC Director is also a member of the Office of
Undergraduate Education's leadership team.

Oregon State University is a Carnegie R1 institution. Research expectations
include publication of original scholarship in the areas described above.
Teaching expectations include assignments in undergraduate baccalaureate
core writing courses, undergraduate upper-division writing courses, and
graduate courses within the MA in English program.

Minimum/Required Qualifications:

   - Ph.D. in English or Rhetoric and Composition or a related field.
   - Demonstrated effectiveness of high-quality undergraduate teaching.
   - Evidence of administrative success in institutional or organizational
   capacities.
   - Demonstrated potential for establishing a research agenda that results
   in publication in refereed journals.
   - A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.
   - Evidence of commitment to interdisciplinary writing success and
   support.

Preferred Qualifications:

   - Experience teaching second language learners in English composition.
   - Administrative experience training GTAs, instructors, or conducting
   pedagogical workshops.
   - Demonstrated interest in curricular development in undergraduate and
   graduate rhetoric and writing courses.
   - Experience mentoring faculty and graduate students.
