Dear Colleagues,

The Coucil for Programs in Technical and Scientific Communication (CPTSC)
invites research to promote anti-racist programs and pedagogies in technical,
professional and scientific communication. Late summer is always a busy
time, but this year is particularly difficult with last-minute changes to
teaching modes, changing institutional protocols for research, xenophobic
policies for online education, and continued violence against BIPOC. In
recognition of this particularly stressful time, we have extended the due
date for proposals for the 2020 CPTSC Research Grants to Promote
Anti-Racist Programs and Pedagogies to October 31, 2020.

We announced these grants in the wake of the deaths of Ahmaud Arbery, George
Floyd, Tony McDade, and Breonna Taylor. Those names were added to a list
that included Sandra Bland, Michael Brown, Philando Castile, Freddie
Gray, Trayvon
Martin, and Tamir Rice. Since this CFP went out earlier this summer,
Rayshard Brooks and Julian Lewis have joined this list of Black people who
have lost their lives to police violence or vigilantism in a culture of
white supremacy. Jacob Blake fights for his life after being shot by police
seven times. This list is sadly incomplete.

In this context, CPTSC hopes this grant program will help support the
urgent work of building anti-racist pedagogies and programs. Proposals are
due on October 31, 2020, and a minimum of one grant for up to $2000 will be
awarded. The full call is linked below:

Thank you to Victor Del Hierro, Laura Gonzales, and Ann Shivers-McNair for
their invaluable help drafting the call. Please contact Stacey Pigg (

you have any questions.

Thank you!
