Our programs provide students with a broad background in rhetoric and writing studies and encourage them to apply their knowledge to address the needs of local communities. Our students are able to participate in events and research activities within a department of community-engaged scholars.
Examples of current faculty members’ projects include

  * ART of Infertility,<http://www.artofinfertility.org/> a national arts organization that supports the infertility community
  * Mapping Resistance and Racism in Milwaukee County, a digital-humanities project
Students may also choose to focus on more traditional academic areas such as rhetorical theory, composition pedagogy, and writing program administration. Some recent courses include

  * The Social Justice Turn in Technical and Professional Communication
  *          Cultural Rhetorics
  *          Language, Race, and Culture
