Update: I wanted to send a reminder about this position, as we begin application reviews on December 1st. We are open to applicants from a wide array of approaches and backgrounds in medical rhetoric, including but not limited to health justice; rhetoric of science; disability studies; racial justice approaches to medical rhetoric; regulatory policy; feminist, queer, and trans health; and public understanding of science. This position affords researchers the unique opportunity to engage at the intersection of a recent institutional partnership established between Old Dominion University and Eastern Virginia Medical School. This partnership originated through a concerted regional effort to focus on health equity for underserved residents of the area and should afford the successful applicant with an exciting space for collaborative, interdisciplinary, and community-based research and grant opportunities. In short: The medical school and ODU are merging and are driven by a mission of regional public health.

In the spirit of collegial transparency: We just transitioned from an R2 to an R1 last year, and we're working to get our teaching loads to reflect that. The incoming teaching load would be 3/2, with further teaching reductions possible for administrative service or by way of negotiation. We hope that our entire college is on a 2/2 in the next year or two. This position is a 10-month appointment with opportunities for summer teaching. The base salary we were given is 70K, but this is a starting point. The Dean and Provost expect negotiations and are motivated to have this search succeed.
