Description

The Technical Writing and Communication faculty in the College of Integrative Sciences and Arts on the Polytechnic Campus at Arizona State University invite applications for an Assistant or Associate Professor position in Technical Writing and Communication, with specialization in User Experience. Expectations for this position include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses; engaging in research applicable to User Experience; practicing inclusive teaching and mentoring; and providing service to the unit, college, and university. Teaching load is typically two (2) courses per semester. Course load and composition are determined by the school Director. This is an academic-year appointment with an expected start date of August 2024. This position is a benefits-eligible appointment with tenure implications. Salary is competitive, commensurate with experience.

The Technical Writing and Communication program is home to vibrant and innovative scholars, teachers, and students. We value the freedom to work with faculty throughout the university in a wide range of research areas that help advance the knowledge of students, support practitioner work, and improve the lives of users. We value the intellectual collaborations we have cultivated with other units at ASU. Alongside various partnerships with the School of Sustainability, Edson College of Nursing and Health Innovation, and WP Carey School of Business, we co-administer a MS in User Experience with Fulton School of Engineering and will be launching a BS in User Experience in Fall 2024 that will reside in our college. In addition to our BS and MS in UX, we currently offer an MS, BS, minor, and graduate certificate in Technical Communication, as well as concentrations in Data Visualization, Social Media Management, and Medical and Health Communication. The Technical Writing and Communication program houses the CRUX lab where faculty and students engage in impactful communication and UX research using state-of-the-art resources, including an eye-tracking system, and hosts the Conference on Teaching Writing in the Health Professions (WIHPcon).

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  *   Doctoral or terminal degree in technical communication, user experience or a related field at time of appointment
  *   Published research or promise to publish in peer-reviewed journals relative to rank
  *   Ability to teach in digital environments such as Canvas (asynchronously and/or synchronously)
  *   Experience teaching graduate or undergraduate university courses
  *   Excellent written and spoken communication skills
  *   Evidence of teaching effectiveness
  *   Potential to secure external research funding

 Desired Qualifications:

  *   Strong evidence of a scholarly research program in user experience
  *   Teaching experience in a post-secondary environment
  *   User experience industry experience
