<p>The Department of English at the University of Houston-Downtown (UHD) invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Technical Communication

<span class="highlight" id="0.05780479156899443" name="searchHitInReadingPane">to</span> begin August 2019. The teaching load is 3/4 with some

<span class="highlight" id="0.8321957167130429" name="searchHitInReadingPane">ad</span>justments for graduate teaching. A PhD in a relevant field is required by initial appointment. The ideal candidate should have expertise in one or more of the following areas: 

 medical and/or science writing, environmental writing, project management, technical communication theory, usability testing, desktop publishing, and ethics.

<p>Candidates must have an ability and willingness <span class="highlight" id="0.09950608229617341" name="searchHitInReadingPane">

to</span> teach courses in their field of expertise and <span class="highlight" id="0.5837685059381276" name="searchHitInReadingPane">

to</span> regularly teach Business and Technical Report Writing as well as other courses in the rotation for the Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Technical Communication degrees. Publications in candidate’s field of expertise and university service

 are required for tenure. Strong candidates will have ability <span class="highlight" id="0.7848653495899209" name="searchHitInReadingPane">

to</span> participate in and secure external grant opportunities, experience working in a university environment, and/or online teaching experience.</p>

<p>Our Technical Communication program is housed in the Department of English. We offer the B. S. in Technical Communication and the M.S. in Technical Communication in face-<span class="highlight" id="0.23873053149306667" name="searchHitInReadingPane">to</span>-face,

 hybrid, and online delivery formats. We also have a graduate certificate program in Plain Language. Beginning spring 2019, we’ll also start a new graduate certificate program in Medical and Applied Health Communication. See
