Harrington School of Communication and Media at the University of Rhode
Island seeks a tenure-track assistant professor to be appointed in the
Department of Writing and Rhetoric. In particular, the School is seeking
a specialist in professional and/or technical communication who can
contribute to the School’s interdisciplinary research, teaching, and
service missions.<br><br>The Harrington School of Communication and
Media is a leader in communication and media research and education.
Administratively housed within the College of Arts and Sciences, the
largest college at the University of Rhode Island, the Harrington School
is home to programs in communication studies, digital media,
film/media, journalism, library and information studies, public
relations, sports media and communication, and writing and rhetoric.<br><br>The
ideal candidate for this position will be joining an engaging community
of 65 full-time faculty, 100 part-time instructors, and 1350
undergraduate and graduate students, and will teach and work with
students in our new communication and media hub.<br><br>The University
of Rhode Island is conveniently located near the state’s famous beaches,
one mile from an Amtrak station connecting to Boston and New York City,
20 miles from T.F. Green International Airport, and 30 miles from
Providence, Rhode Island.<br><br>Basic Function:<br><br>Demonstrate both
commitment and contribution to diversity, equity, and inclusion; teach
in the Department of Writing and Rhetoric; engage in research leading to
publication; participate in service activities at the department,
college, school, and university levels; lead faculty development in

Natural Resources Sciences in the College of the Environment and Life
Sciences. Specifically, we are seeking a specialist in science writing
who can contribute to URI’s interdisciplinary research, teaching, and
science communication missions.<br><br>Basic Function:<br><br>Demonstrate
both commitment and contribution to diversity, equity, and inclusion;
engage in research leading to publication and external funding; teach in
the Department of Writing and Rhetoric and in the Department of Natural
Resources Science; support interdisciplinary science writing and
science communication/public engagement initiatives at URI; and
participate in service activities at the department, school, college,
