<div class="">The College of Liberal Arts and the Department of English at Auburn University invite applications and nominations for the Chair of the Department of English to begin August 16, 2020.<br class="">
<br class="">
The department mission includes research, instruction, service, and outreach in the fields of creative writing, literature, technical & professional communication, and rhetoric & composition studies, and candidates who match or complement one of these four
areas are invited to apply.<br class="">
<br class="">
The Chair’s responsibilities include: participating as a member of the senior administrative team of the College of Liberal Arts; guiding the department regarding research, teaching, and faculty mentorship and development; directing undergraduate and graduate
education in the department; and supervising department personnel.<br class="">
<br class="">
The Department Chair is a full-time, 12-month administrative position; appointment will be for an initial term of 3-5 years that may be renewed contingent upon satisfactory annual reviews and departmental by-laws.<br class="">

<div class="">Candidates must hold the rank of Full Professor with a terminal degree in a field within English Studies and have significant experience in academic administration in an English Department with multiple subfields.<br class="">

Candidates must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated effectiveness in leadership and management.<br class="">
<br class="">
The candidate selected will have academic credentials sufficient to meet rank and tenure eligibility requirements.<br class="">
<br class="">
Candidates should have a record of outstanding teaching at graduate and undergraduate levels, a strong record of published research or creative work in field, and a commitment to working with diverse groups of students, faculty, and staff to maintain high standards
of scholarship, faculty engagement, and education at the undergraduate and graduate levels.</div>
