<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Times New Roman",serif">For occasions such as understanding the expectations for a technical report, the game of Kahoot provides a good way to quiz students inside or outside of class. An advantage
of running a Kahoot over just posing questions to the class is that you receive an answer to each question from every student. At the
<b><a href="https://www.craftofscientificwriting.com/kahoots.html">following webpage</a></b>, you will find some Kahoots to teach aspects of technical writing. Note that before playing a Kahoot, students have been assigned a reading or a couple of short films
to watch.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Times New Roman",serif">For those unfamiliar with the game of Kahoot, I invite you to click on the one below. This particular Kahoot focuses on principles that students should know and common misconceptions
that students should avoid for technical reports. To run such a Kahoot in a class, you will need an account. Kahoot offers a free version, but this version allows you to have only 10 students play at one time. However, you can have more students play at the
same time by grouping them into teams with a shared device. Another possibility is to subscribe to an account--Kahoot accounts are relatively inexpensive.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Times New Roman",serif">Between my technical writing course and guest lectures, I run at least one Kahoot a week. Group sizes range from 15 to 150. If you can adopt the persona of a game show host
and if students do the assigned reading or viewing, the class period can be quite fun. During a game, Kahoot highlights the five fastest players, but in a game’s report, you can determine which students identified the highest percentage of correct answers.
In my technical writing course, we acknowledge the students who answered the most questions correctly at the beginning of the next class period. We also have students sign in with their first name and last initial as a means for attendance.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
