<div dir="ltr"><div>Hi all,</div><div>Thanks all for bringing up this topic. I'm a fairly new professor and will be teaching this course in the fall. I've been looking at options, trying to see/frankenstein materials to meet my needs. One of the big conversations that came up in the course prep and researching was the emerging emphasis in the editing and technical communication worlds on not just editing written text, but also editing audio, video, and working with webpages. Most of the materials don't suit this need. I do think there's a call and need for newer, updated materials. I have it but haven?t used it in a class?at almost 600 pages it is too much for the undergraduate courses I teach, but it might work in a graduate course.<br>

In my undergraduate Intro to Tech Editing course I use The Copyeditor?s Handbook and Workbook<<a href="https://www.ucpress.edu/books/the-copyeditors-handbook-and-workbook/paper" rel="noreferrer" target="_blank">https://www.ucpress.edu/books/the-copyeditors-handbook-and-workbook/paper</a>> from UC Press and supplement it with other readings and activities (mostly editing technical texts).<br>

I also wrote several short articles on editing topics not typically covered in textbooks, and I published them on my OER website here: <a href="http://groversenglish.com/craftofediting.php" rel="noreferrer" target="_blank">http://groversenglish.com/craftofediting.php</a>. These are free for anyone to use, and I?d love to publish similar articles if any of you have stuff you?d like to write (mine often stem from in-class lectures or discussions that I?ve given repeatedly).<br>

I taught a course in technical editing at the University of Washington from<br>
1982 to (approximately) 2000. I have a large collection of teaching<br>
materials?teaching notes, student handouts, exercises, etc. I hold the<br>
copyright to most of it. I would happily contribute this material to any<br>
effort to create a new (ideally, public domain) textbook.<br>
<br>
I also wrote a 40-page monograph, *How to Teach Technical Editing, *that<br>
was published by the Society for Technical Communication in 1986. I was<br>
told that it sold well for many years. Much of it can be re-written as<br>
student-facing textbook material. STC holds the copyright but would, I<br>
assume, transfer it to people who are creating a resource that would be<br>
useful for our field.<br>
