These have been recently published in Kairos, with the help of a few students (both undergrads who participated in the assignment and graduate students who taught it). Hi all,
Thanks all for bringing up this topic. I'm a fairly new professor and will
be teaching this course in the fall. I've been looking at options, trying
to see/frankenstein materials to meet my needs. One of the big
conversations that came up in the course prep and researching was the
emerging emphasis in the editing and technical communication worlds on not
just editing written text, but also editing audio, video, and working with
webpages. Most of the materials don't suit this need. I do think there's a
call and need for newer, updated materials. Like many others, I also really
try to prioritize OER materials for my course.

I'd love to contribute to a technical editing resource, as well.
I'd love to help with a new [updated] edition of Rude/Eaton--but didn't think that doing so was an option. Is it?
Hi Folks,
I have a faculty member in my program who teaches editing and absolutely loves Technical Editing by Rude/Eaton. Because it's out of print, however, it is very expensive for students to purchase. We're looking for suggestions on replacement texts that others have used instead, or any updates on possible reissues of that textbook.
Thanks,
Not sure if Carolyn is monitoring this discussion. A different option would
be for Carolyn to get a release of copyright from Allyn $ Bacon and publish
in Kindle. She could set the price and enjoy the royalties, which approach
70% on self publishing.
Thanks for starting this conversation, Elisabeth, and thanks to everyone
else who has contributed.

If the Rude/Eaton update isn't possible, I would also be interested in
developing an OER textbook for editing courses. I teach one editing course
that has been limited by the lack of affordable texts and instructional
resources. If anyone organizes an effort to leverage our expertise and
efforts, I would be happy to help out.
