I definitely think a new edition of a new technical editing text would be helpful. I usually cobble together various material from the 2019 Technical Editing text from Oxford UP. I actually like that one because it’s a bit more up to date than the Rude/Eaton
text. However, the exercises and activities in Rude/Eaton are really good and I do pull information from that one as well. We also use the The Copyeditor’s Handbook and Workbook and the Chicago Manual of Style. Like several in this thread updated material
relevant to technical editing is needed. Somewhere in this thread someone mentioned the need for editing audio/video and other digital content. At my institution, editing of audio/video/other digital content is typically covered in either our Writing for
Digital Media course or in one or more broadcast journalism classes or in the digital media studies program more than in our technical editing course for various reasons; however, I can see where including this information in a technical editing text would
also be needful.
