Hi all,

I'm using OBS this semester as well for a UX class. It's what our UX lab here on campus uses, so it's my first time, but so far so good.

Hi Mark and David,

I have also used Quicktime, but it is not available for PCs. For my dissertation research, I used OBS Studio with great results. It’s an open source software commonly used by video gamers for streaming. It takes a bit of set up but you can do a lot of different things with it.

I hope that helps you out. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Mark, if you use a Mac, Quicktime is an included app that can do simple screen and audio recording, though it doesn’t allow the advanced editing or enhancement or compression other apps offer. I’m not sure if Quicktime for PCs does this.

I usually run the results through Handbrake (free online, a bit confusing but I’d be happy to help) to compress the file sizes before sharing them.

Hope this helps,
David

Hi,

We don't have the $150/license budget to put Camtasia or Adobe's Captivate suite in our tech comm lab space. I was wondering if anyone has been able to use open source alternatives with any success. I've looked up some free applications, but they all seem to be lacking.

Thanks.
