The Rhetoric, Composition, and Literacy Studies program in the Department of English at The Ohio State University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar in the area of Community Literacy. We seek an emerging scholar with interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary interests in Literacy Studies - specifically interests in community-based literacies and pedagogies that address social justice issues as they relate to gender, ethnicity, race, indigeneity, sexuality, and/or disability.

The Postdoctoral Scholar will develop and contribute to interdisciplinary initiatives in research with departments, programs, and centers; offer innovative cross-listed and collaborative graduate and undergraduate courses; mentor undergraduate and graduate students interested in issues of community literacy; and be an active member of an interdisciplinary Community working group. The Community working group, which is sponsored by the Global Arts + Humanities Discovery Theme, highlights the transformative power of critical and creative practices as participants co-design collaborations with communities, including those local to Columbus, that embrace diverse perspectives, address social equities, foster hope and joy, and empower students and faculty to discover how their methodologies might be deployed in public-facing, partner-engaged work.

This Postdoctoral Scholar position will teach one course each semester (four courses total over two years). This is a twelve-month appointment starting August 2020 that is renewable for up to two total years.

This position is made possible by Ohio State's Global Arts + Humanities Discovery Theme.

The Department of English is part of the College of Arts and Sciences, Ohio State's largest college and the academic heart of the university. The College hosts 81 majors. With 38 departments, 20+ world-class research centers, and more than 2,000 faculty and staff members, students have the unique opportunity to study with the best artists, scholars, and scientists in their field. The College values diversity and offers a supportive, open, and inclusive community.

To apply, please submit (by March 8, 2020 via https://www.jobsatosu.com/postings/101428) a cover letter, curriculum vitae, 1000-word research proposal (excluding works cited), a sample course title and brief (200-250 word) description for an undergraduate course, and names of three references. Inquiries may be directed to Jonathan Buehl (buehl.7 at osu.edu<mailto:buehl.7 at osu.edu>). Applicants should be prepared to provide a writing sample, two sample syllabi, and the letters of references.
