The University of Texas at Arlington, a HSI and Carnegie classified very high research institution, occupying the Indigenous lands of Turtle Island, the ancestral name of North America, and the lands and territories of the Caddo, invite applications for 15 open rank multidisciplinary lines across the university.

Situated with the 4th largest metropolitan area of Dallas/Fort Worth/Arlington in the United States and with the 6th most racially and ethnically diverse undergraduate student population, UTA supports the research and student activities of multiple academic centers across campus including: the Center for African America Studies, the Center for Mexican-American Studies, and the Women’s and Gender Studies programs. In addition, UTA developed the first Disability Studies degree program in Texas, leads in intercollegiate wheelchair basketball, supports the longest running Native American Student group in Texas with over 18 years of annual powwows and is further recognized as a top university in the nation of veterans, among many other accolades.

As a special note: The broad job posting, with a specific nod toward underrepresentation in STEM, must not deter applications from humanities/social science scholars with a record (or emerging) of applying for and securing external funding—at any rank.

As a comprehensive and public university with a strong College of Liberal Arts leading with SCHs, the university does focus on Nursing and Engineering as pillars of professional growth. However, the Department of English has an especially strong and collaborative relationship with the college of Nursing with a history of collaboration in teaching with the college of Engineering.

Both open and direct invitations to apply for the positions will occur across the university with college-level committees assessing candidate files in consultation with academic units, i.e., to find the department the candidate will best align.

If you would like to talk with me about the job ad, the internal decisions of the ad, and about working for UT-Arlington while living in the city of Dallas, please get in touch with me off list. I’d be happy to talk via Teams, Hangouts, Skype, or Zoom.

Sincerely,
Estee Beck
