[ATTW-L] Technical Communication's new editor: Miriam Williams

It is a privilege to share with you this exciting news:

The Board of Directors of the Society for Technical Communication is pleased to announce that Dr. Miriam F. Williams of Texas State University will assume the position of Editor-in-Chief for the journal, Technical Communication, starting in January 2021. Dr. Williams is Professor and Associate Chair of the Department of English at Texas State and previously directed its  MA program in Technical Communication.

In her professional career, Dr. Williams worked for the Texas Department of Health and Human Services Commission (DHS) as a Policy Specialist and Regulation Editor/Developer. Later, at DHS, Dr. Williams served as the Program Administrator for Regulation Editors.

After completing her PhD in Technical Communication and Rhetoric at Texas Tech University, Dr. Williams started her academic career at Texas State University in 2005.  She served as the Presidential Fellow for 2011-2012 and was promoted to Full Professor in 2014.

Dr. Williams is an award winning scholar, including the 2020 CCCC Award for Best Article Reporting Historical Research or Textual Studies in Technical and Scientific Communication (“Technologies of Disenfranchisement: Literacy Tests and Black Voters in the US from 1890 to 1965,” Technical Communication 65.4, 2018, co-authored with Natasha N. Jones) and the 2016 CCCC Award for Best Original Collection of Essays in Technical or Scientific Communication (Communicating Race, Ethnicity, and Identity in Technical Communication, Routledge, 2014, co-edited with Octavio Pimentel).  In 2017, she was elevated to Fellow of the Association of Teachers of Technical Writing (ATTW).

Dr. Williams views practitioner-academic collaborations in research as a central part of her vision for the journal. As a scholar and practitioner with a commitment to social justice, she intends to keep the journal relevant, timely, and award winning.
