Dear colleagues in the teaching of Professional Communication,

The English Department at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is hiring approximately six full time Lecturers to teach first-year composition and/or business and technical writing. The teaching load is 3-3 with no service requirement. The position includes health insurance and other benefits. The job ad is pasted below in full.

We've worked very hard over the past decade to make this an excellent non-tenure job. In addition to a reasonable teaching load and benefits, here are some of the things that make this position attractive:

  * Exceptionally competitive teaching load and pay for non-tenure positions in English
  * Coverage by a union collective bargaining agreement<https://humanresources.illinois.edu/assets/docs/SHR/LaborAgreements/Local-6546-Contract.pdf>, NTFC Local #6546
  * Thanks to that collective bargaining agreement, scheduled pay raises for the next couple of years
  * Guaranteed notice of reappointment or non-reappointment in the spring (no waiting until summer to find out if you have a job next year!)
  * Some guaranteed monetary support for research/professional development - conference travel, books, equipment, etc.
  * Opportunities for promotion and greater job security after 5 years
  * A large, active, supportive non-tenure faculty community

If any person has questions or is interested in talking more about the position, the university, or the Champaign-Urbana community, they should feel welcome to contact me!

All the best,
Dave Morris
