*Position Summary*
The Department of English and Communication Studies at Hamline University
invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor, to begin in
fall 2025, whose research, teaching, and service in digital humanities &
professional communication will advance more just and equitable social
systems and structures. Strong candidates will have a solid foundation in
the theory and practice of rhetoric and communication, with a particular
emphasis on using digital technologies for public advocacy and to support
student learning.
Areas of teaching and research may include but are not limited to the
following: digital communications and social justice; community-centered
digital media/marketing strategies and tools; cross-disciplinary digital
literacies; climate justice and science/environmental communication; media
or game studies; and technology-informed instructional design and
pedagogy. Regardless of specialization, we seek scholars whose work will
help students translate theoretical knowledge and practical expertise into
a wide array of multimodal design skills. All members of our department
also design and teach courses, as well as contribute to faculty development
efforts, that link the digital humanities and communication studies to core
general education requirements, including the First Year Writing curriculum.
Successful candidates will join a collaborative, supportive,
multidisciplinary department that is committed to transformational learning
in and beyond the classroom, at the intersection of textual analysis,
effective expression, and community leadership and advocacy. Tenure-track
faculty typically teach six courses per academic year, with a one-course
reduction during the first year and a three course release after a
successful third-year review. A Ph.D. in English, Rhetoric and
Composition, Communication Studies, or related field is required; ABD
applicants with expected defense dates by August 30th, 2025 will also be
considered.
Screening of applications begins on October 15, 2024, and will continue
until the position is filled. Questions may be addressed to Mike Reynolds,
search chair, at 651-523-2641 or mreynolds at hamline.edu.
