Dear Colleagues,

Please circulate the following job ad for a Visiting Faculty at Grand Valley State University starting August 2018. It’s a great opportunity for graduate students finishing their degrees who would like more teaching experience before going on the TT job market.

Visiting Faculty of Writing. The Department of Writing at Grand Valley State University seeks to fill a full-time (9-month) Visiting Faculty position beginning in August 2018. The ideal candidates will focus their careers on teaching general education writing courses and on continuously developing their professional expertise as writing instructors. An MFA or PhD in Rhetoric/Composition, English, Writing or closely related field is required by time of employment, and graduate coursework in rhetoric and composition is desired. Candidates need to have expertise and experience in teaching college composition in both traditional classrooms and computer labs. Preference will be given to candidates who also have experience teaching business communication. Grand Valley State University offers a unique curricular structure for first-year writing that centers on collaborative portfolio grading and working with imbedded writing center consultants; successful candidates will demonstrate interest in and/or experience with these pedagogical strategies. The typical teaching load is 12-credit hours per semester, drawn from WRT 150 and WRT 350. Please see the Department of Writing website, http://www.gvsu.edu/writing, for details about these courses.

This is a one-year non-tenure track position with the possibility of renewal up to three years. This position is designed for candidates planning to seek permanent positions elsewhere. To help Visiting Faculty in their continuing job searches, we provide mentoring, research and conference travel support, and performance reviews. Women, racial and ethnic minorities, individuals with disabilities, and veterans are encouraged to apply.

To apply, send PDFs of a cover letter addressed to Professor Christopher Toth, a CV, a statement of teaching philosophy, and a list of at least three references with contact information to the Department of Writing Chair at tothc at gvsu.edu<mailto:tothc at gvsu.edu>. Review of applications will begin June 4, 2018, and the position will remain open until filled. We plan to conduct online interviews with finalists. The position is contingent on available funding. GVSU is an EO/AA institution.

If you have any questions about the position, department, university, or Michigan please feel free to contact me. Please distribute this job ad to any qualified candidates who may be interested.

Thanks,
Christopher Toth
