[ATTW-L] Scientific Exhibit Analysis

Thanks for this query, Jackie!

I'm currently working with a state arboretum on their interpretive planning process, which includes signage, wayfinding, and other visitor-oriented materials (though not so much exhibits in the sense you'd find at a museum).

To that end, I've combed through the tech comm and rhetoric literature for sources on museums, interpretation, exhibits, etc. While I didn't find as much as I expected, there is some great work. In addition to Carliner's TC article (thanks, Russell!), I recommend:

Hope these are helpful!

Saul Carliner published an article in Technical Communication that drew lessons for technical communication and instructional design from a number of museum exhibits. It could help someone connect museum exhibits to tech comm concepts.

Good morning,

Would anyone be willing to share an assignment sheet, or even ideas, for teaching a writing assignment that analyzes an exhibit? I have a graduate student teaching technical writing at our university for the first time, and she could use help with ideas.

Nota bene: This assignment idea was envisioned in part by one of our faculty members who passed away last fall. I have some ideas to share with her, but some help from the wider field would be much more helpful, I think.

Thanks in advance,

Jackie
