Greetings fellow technical communication and writing instructors,


Please consider participating in an IRB-approved study about the tools and resources writing instructors use to strategize the design of their courses. I seek to learn what kind of student data you might collect and how you have strategized ways to learn about your students as users in your courses, specifically as you have migrated your courses from face-to-face to online delivery during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Instructional design researchers have generated information on how to design courses for asynchronous and hybrid learning for non-traditional students as well as for employees in a work setting (Lee and Owens, 2004; Horton, 2012; Kirkpatrick, 2016). More recently, research on making online course delivery content more personal and accessible has layered the student-as-user experience into course preparation (Borgman and McArdle, 2019).This study aims to build upon such research by learning how technical communication instructors strategize ways to learn about their students as users of their courses, specifically as they migrate their courses from face-to-face to online delivery.

If you choose to participate in the follow-up interview, you will provide a method of contact (either by phone or email). The interview should take no more than 30 minutes.
