Hello all,

Please join me on Zoom for a fireside chat (sans fire) with Margaret Price on Tuesday, March 2nd, 4:00-5:30 PST. Our conversation will last about an hour and be followed by a Q & A.

Dr. Price is a specialist in disabilities studies and rhetorical theory, and author of the award-winning monograph, Mad at School: Rhetoric of Mental Disability and Academic Life. Her recent work has, among other things, and through various methods, developed her study of disability and the academy. Dr. Price is Associate Professor of English at The Ohio State University.

On March 2, Dr. Price will speak about some deeply-held values of university culture: rationality, productivity, presence, security, and independence—values typically consulted, deliberately and not, in assessments of both students and faculty members. She will suggest ways to ameliorate some of the problems that arise because of mentally-ableist assumptions and expectations within the academy.

This event is jointly sponsored by the Public Humanities Hub https://womenshealthresearch.ubc.ca/ <https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/womenshealthresearch.ubc.ca/__;!!KGKeukY!kB2J_doMUu0WaKTbatqjCQbiQUmFhlbng6a-_JcrAYC3Hcwf2-3i7ZLfe5-5HTkKutU$> and the Women’s Health Research Cluster https://publichumanities.ubc.ca/ <https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/publichumanities.ubc.ca/__;!!KGKeukY!kB2J_doMUu0WaKTbatqjCQbiQUmFhlbng6a-_JcrAYC3Hcwf2-3i7ZLfe5-5wzJMxJE$> at the University of British Columbia.
