The Department of English, within the College of Arts and Sciences, seeks an Education Program Senior Specialist to join our Rhetoric, Composition, and Literacy team and to serve as the academic specialist of First-Year Writing. The College of Arts and Sciences is the largest college and the academic heart of the university. The College hosts 81 majors. This position contributes to the development and delivery of the Department of English's First-Year Writing Program curriculum and assessment. The individual in this role arranges teaching assignments and course scheduling of First-Year Writing classes; manages General Education Curriculum (GEC) assessment, data collection and preparation of reports; implements course placement policies; researches advances in writing pedagogy and administration through regular professional development; liaises with related units; teaches up to two courses per year (creates syllabi, teaches class sessions or modules, works with students, holds regular office hours, prepares lesson plans, evaluates students and assigns grades, etc.).
In partnership with the Director of First-Year Writing, this position administers the development and implementation of the First-Year Writing (FYW) curriculum 1) through leading and participating in the creation of FYW course curriculum with creative and intellectual input; 2) in selecting, creating, and preparing English 1110 course materials; and 3) in creating and administering the development of custom course material (i.e., custom course textbooks), when needed. In addition to developing course materials, this position will also administer the planning and presentation of curricular training for Lecturers and GTAs and lead specific sessions of that training. In addition, throughout the academic year this position will be responsible for conducting several Lecturer and GTA teaching observations and will meet with the various instructors and the Director to provide assessment and feedback. This position will serve as a contact for Lectures and GTAs in the English department teaching FYW courses through regular open office hours and will consult on the interpretation of course and department policies, student policies and university policies.  This position will regularly conduct and administer FYWP team meetings with the Director, which may occasionally include regional campus staff or faculty, to provide program updates, discuss lesson plans, address faulty and GTA concerns or issues and to discuss evolving curriculum.  This may also include various workshops for professional development and for new GTAs during the academic year.  As part of the position, it is expected that this employee will maintain an active knowledge of writing pedagogy and FYW administration through regular professional development and the participation in workshops and conferences related to FYW throughout the year.  This position will also participate in outreach efforts of the FYW program through local community partnerships, high school outreach efforts and other professional development workshops and instructional conferences where they will present on FYE curriculum to colleagues within and external to the university.
Manages ongoing internal and GEC assessment of the FYW program, which includes developing materials and procedures to facilitate direct and indirect assessment of FYW courses, organizing the collection and evaluation of student writing, and reporting on assessment activities for stakeholders across the university.
Leads the FYW placement process through the evaluation and placement of numerous students each semester.  These responsibilities include but are not limited to, serving as the point of contact for placement-related inquiries from students and university stakeholders; determining if students need to write a placement essay; evaluating scores of placement essays to determine appropriate placements; responding to advisors and students regarding issues of transfer credit and placement; and making placement and credit determinations after evaluating external course material. This person holding this position will also partner with offices across campus, (for example, athletics, the OSU Academy, testing, the registrar, admissions, etc.) on issues and processes pertaining to FYW placement. The person will also verify students are enrolled in the correct course and remove them, if appropriate. They will also be responsible for managing reports regarding student placement and enrollment data as well as presenting this information to the Director and University stakeholders.
Teaches up to two undergraduate courses per year, which might include FYW, Second-Year Writing, or other courses meeting departmental needs.

Required Qualifications:
Master's degree in English or related field required, and a Ph.D. is preferred. Considerable knowledge and experience in higher education and (4 - 8 years) experience in academic program administration is required. Experience teaching English courses at the undergraduate level required.
The targeted hiring range for this position is $49,000.00 - $65,000.00 annually.
