Hi all,

I’m excited to announce that the English Department at East Carolina University is hiring for a tenure-track assistant professor in writing studies.

The Department of English seeks applications for the position of Assistant Professor in writing studies (technical and professional communication and/or rhetoric and composition) with specialization in cultural rhetorics, Black rhetorics, critical race theory, intercultural communication, or a related focus, to begin August 16, 2022. This is a 9-month-per-year tenure-track faculty position. Candidates will be expected to pursue an ongoing research agenda in an area of specialization. Teaching duties include graduate and undergraduate distance education and face-to-face courses in rhetoric, composition, and technical and professional communication. The candidate will contribute to our new BS program, a thriving technical communication concentration at the MA level, and the PhD program. Course load is typically 5 courses per year for research-active faculty with the possibility of adjustment based on research productivity and other activities. The successful candidate will also be expected to provide appropriate service to the department, university, community, and profession.

Minimum Education/Experience

Candidates should demonstrate expertise in cultural rhetorics, Black rhetorics, critical race theory, intercultural communication, or a related focus. A PhD in English or a closely related field, including but not limited to Rhetoric/Composition, Writing Studies, or Technical Communication, is required. However, ABD candidates may be considered. Initial appointment will be at the probationary-term rank of Assistant Professor. ABD candidates must have the terminal degree conferred prior to first reappointment. Demonstrated speaking and writing fluency in English is required. Qualifying degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Applications must be submitted online at www.jobs.ecu.edu<http://www.jobs.ecu.edu>, and should include a cover letter addressing the candidate’s research agenda and teaching interests and experience, a curriculum vitae, and unofficial graduate school transcripts. Official transcripts are required upon employment. Letters of recommendation, an article-length writing sample, and a teaching portfolio will be requested from select candidates at a later date. If letters of recommendation will be requested, candidates should be aware that recommenders will be contacted through PeopleAdmin and asked to upload their letters through that interface. Letters of reference submitted via the PeopleAdmin applicant tracking system will be verified and considered towards meeting this requirement.

Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

Additional Instructions to Applicant

In order to be considered for this position, applicants must complete a candidate profile online via the PeopleAdmin system and submit any requested documents. Additionally, applicants that possess the preferred education and experience must also possess the minimum education/experience, if applicable.
