I am pleased to share that the University of Rhode Island is hiring a lecturer in Writing and Rhetoric. The position is full-time academic year, limited to 06/18/2022 with anticipated renewal.
The Department of Writing and Rhetoric (WRT) in the Harrington School of Communication and Media (HCSM) in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Rhode Island (URI) is seeking a faculty member with expertise in teaching writing. WRT’s First Year Writing Program (FYW) has launched new curricular and assessment initiatives rooted in social and linguistic justice, and we are seeking a faculty member to help us advance these initiatives. The one-year appointment, starting in fall of 2022, will be at the rank of a non-tenure track lecturer. Annual reappointments may follow upon successful evaluations and review of teaching performance.

WRT is committed to diversity, access, and inclusion and seeks to compose more diverse and equitable futures. As such, we particularly welcome candidates from groups that are historically underrepresented, marginalized, and/or excluded in the field who can engage students with different perspectives. Candidates will demonstrate a commitment to inclusivity to enhance a sense of belonging and academic success among undergraduate student writers from diverse cultures and backgrounds.

The selected candidate will join the WRT faculty as a lecturer and contribute to the department by teaching 24 credit hours per academic year in the FYW program. They will participate in a collaborative and evolving shared curriculum development and instructional process. They may be asked to assist in other instruction-related service as designated by the department chair; however, lecturers are not expected to perform college and university service beyond those listed above. Lecturers are not required to engage in scholarly activities; however, the application of pedagogical research to classroom practice is important to our department.

Lecturers are evaluated through the annual review process as prescribed in the Collective Bargaining Agreement, including a classroom observation and assessment of teaching that will be conducted by the department chair or their designee. Teaching excellence is cultivated, supported, and expected for lecturers. Lecturers may be eligible for promotion to senior lecturer or teaching professor, depending on time in rank, degree attained, and demonstrated teaching excellence.

For complete details, including required and preferred qualifications, and the application process itself, please visit the URI jobs website at https://jobs.uri.edu <https://jobs.uri.edu/> to apply for job posting (F00275).

The search will remain open until the position is filled. First consideration will be given to applications received by November 30, 2021. Second consideration may be given to applications received by December 17, 2021. Applications received subsequent to second consideration date (December 17, 2021) may not be given full consideration.

APPLICATIONS MUST BE SUBMITTED ONLINE ONLY.

The University of Rhode Island is an AA/EEOD employer.
Women, persons of color, protected veterans, individuals with disabilities, and members of other protected groups are encouraged to apply.
