Dear ATTW colleagues,

Please share our MA and PhD programs with your students. We’ve just extended our application deadline to January 11. I am happy to answer any questions or direct them to our DGS, Dr. Beau Pihlaja, at english.tcr at ttu.edu <mailto:english.tcr at ttu.edu>. More details below.

Michael

Join Texas Tech University's Distinguished Tech Comm Programs!

We offer the MA in Technical Communication and PhD in Technical Communication & Rhetoric. All of our graduate programs are delivered via online and onsite modalities. Application deadline is January 11, 2023 for both the MA and PhD. We do not require the GRE for grad applications.

Our programs' distinctive features include:

1. Competitive Funding for Onsite MA & PhD Students

We remain well-poised in an era of uncertain financial times for higher education. We guarantee four years of annual stipends ($20,000) for all of our onsite PhD students and two years of stipends ($14,000) for our onsite MA students. Lubbock, TX also offers a low cost of living for a city with a population of 300,000+. And oh, did we mention the 300+ days of sunshine in the south plains?

2. Diverse Faculty Strengths

We have 15 assistant, associate, and full professors with an array of theoretical, practical, and methodological approaches to technical communication and rhetoric. Our particular area strengths are:
Technical Communication and User Experience Design
Rhetorics of Science, Health, and Medicine
Composition, Literacy, and Pedagogy
Ethics, Feminism, and Public Rhetoric

3. Graduate Student Placement in Academia and Industry
We realize that the traditional purpose of a graduate degree has been changing from the exclusive pursuit of a tenure-track academic position. Our current MA and PhD students come to us from companies like Google and Microsoft to grow their practitioner careers as technical communicators while others prepare for traditional academic posts.

Similarly, we prepare our MA students for industry or for application to PhD programs in rhetoric, composition, and technical communication.

4. Flexibility for a Synchronous Online Graduate Education Experience

Our online and onsite MA and PhD programs offer great practical flexibility for current or future working professionals. All of our courses are offered online in a synchronous format that brings together all of our students in a virtual community of learning.

We look forward to receiving applications from your students! We have attached a flyer that you can share with your students.

Thank you!

Dr. Michael J. Faris
