Dear Colleagues:

Please help us spread the word about our full-time teaching track faculty
position in STEM Communication at JHU. *We are looking for people trained
in STEM who are good communicators and student-centered teachers* to help
us develop a new Writing within the DIsciplines program in The Professional
Communication Program in The Whiting School of Engineering at Johns Hopkins
University.

*This position is suitable for newly-graduated Ph.D.s, post-docs,  STEM
colleagues looking to switch academic careers, and professionals from
industry.* All candidates must be student-centered teachers with documented
success in the classroom or in a corporate training environment. Strong
candidates will be able to design and teach technical communication courses
within the context of a scientific, engineering, or medical discipline.
Especially strong candidates will also be able to offer STEM-based
journalism, ethics, or policy courses. The teaching load for this position
is three writing and communication courses each fall and spring (a total of
six courses per year). All communication courses have small enrollment
caps. While the candidate’s primary responsibilities will be focused on the
undergraduate curriculum, there are opportunities to develop and teach
graduate level courses. Candidates may also participate in the PCP’s new
Technical Communication Lab.

We are looking for a long-term colleague who wants to build their career
with us. This position offers employment security through a full-time,
renewable, well-benefitted contract at a competitive salary. Lecturers who
demonstrate meaningful contributions in teaching and service are eligible
for advancement on a well-defined path of promotion where each step offers
a longer-term contract and increased pay. This position also includes
funding for travel/conferences and professional development.

The Professional Communication Program (PCP) is housed in The Center for
Leadership Education (CLE), a vibrant, interdisciplinary center in the
Whiting School of Engineering. The CLE offers a broad range of
undergraduate- and graduate-level curricula in professional communication,
innovation, leadership, accounting/finance, entrepreneurship, and
professional development. CLE courses emphasize experience-based, active
learning techniques that teach students confidence, clarity, adaptability,

Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced degree and demonstrate capability as a
teacher of writing. Candidates with advanced degrees or professional
background in STEM are especially encouraged to apply. Candidates with a
master’s level degree will be considered if they also bring substantial
academic or professional experience in a STEM-related field. Johns Hopkins
