Location: Sirrine Hall-Clemson University
Description
The Department of Interdisciplinary Studies seeks a tenure-track assistant professor in Visual Rhetoric and Information Design. The successful candidate will have a strong research and teaching background in the field of visual rhetoric and information design, with emphases in such areas as visual and multimedia rhetorics, data analytics and visualization, generative AI, design principles, and digital production. This new hire will be responsible for teaching graduate courses and serving on dissertation committees in the Rhetorics, Communication, and Information Design PhD program, in areas such as information design, visual rhetoric, and the rhetorics of mis- and disinformation, as well as courses in their area of specialization, such as digital media, visual rhetoric, or user-experience design. The new hire will also be expected to contribute to interdisciplinary studies courses in current and future areas covered in the department or to the department's advanced courses in business, technical, and science communication that value experiential learning and meet local and global challenges, including design and accessibility, public health and climate change rhetorics, the impact of AI on human relations, or production of informational videos or documentary films that address community issues.

Housed in the College of Arts and Humanities, the new Department of Interdisciplinary Studies currently offers three distinctive BA degree programs in Global Black Studies, Women's Leadership, and World Cinema and a nationally prominent PhD program in Rhetorics, Communication, and Information Design for residential and online students. Beginning in Fall 2024, the Department will also offer courses in professional communication and information design that support Clemson's new Quality Enhancement Program (QEP) in experiential learning and meet the diverse curricular needs of disciplines across the university. Affiliated and core faculty from across the university teach and mentor students in each of the department's programs.

The main campus is located in the Upstate region, an area with a relatively low cost of living, great natural beauty, and easy access to the nearby hubs of Greenville, Atlanta, Asheville, Charlotte, and Columbia.
Minimum Qualifications

  *   A terminal degree in rhetoric, visual rhetoric, information design, media design, or related field.
  *   A scholarly record commensurate with the rank of tenure-track assistant professor in the College of Arts and Humanities at Clemson.
