[ATTW-L] Editing textbook

The WAC Clearinghouse would be happy to create a new book series for textbooks that have gone out of production as well as new textbooks that meet the needs of the community. We’re imagining an expansive series that would include books that address all types of writing and communication courses. We currently have a list of open-access and OER textbooks, some of which are original books published in our book series, as well as a few republished textbooks. We also link to a few relevant OER textbooks on other sites. You can view the books at https://wac.colostate.edu/repository/writing/textbooks/.
If there is sufficient interest (and I think there is), we’d create a new series, recruit reviewers and an editorial board for the series, and get to work. Republication is a bit of a challenge, since many recent books lack a clause in the contract that allows authors to regain their copyright, and commercial publishers may not want to let a book go, but we’re happy to support efforts to make books available. And we’re happy to license books in whatever way authors prefer (generally CC licenses ranging from fairly protective all the way to full OER).
If you’re interested in making a new or older textbook available or would like to participate in this project as a reviewer or board member, please reach out to me directly at mike.palmquist at colostate.edu<mailto:mike.palmquist at colostate.edu>.
All the best,
Mike

I contacted the publisher a year ago and was told my name and interest in producing a new edition would be forwarded to the appropriate people. I never heard back, and I moved on to other things. However, I would still love to do it.

I'd love to help with a new [updated] edition of Rude/Eaton--but didn't think that doing so was an option. Is it?

Hi Folks,
I have a faculty member in my program who teaches editing and absolutely loves Technical Editing by Rude/Eaton. Because it's out of print, however, it is very expensive for students to purchase. We're looking for suggestions on replacement texts that others have used instead, or any updates on possible reissues of that textbook.
Thanks,
