[ATTW-L] Editing textbook

Hi all,
As the one who has been stewarding the Texas A&M Tech Editing class since
2016. I also want to lament the loss of the Rude/Eaton. Eaton's
contributions, particularly the exercises and documents she added towards
the end of its publication time were particularly valuable and insightful
in the evolving editing landscape. I remember seeing her posting somewhere
about the publisher's failure to renew....
Barring Eaton coming to save us with another edition (or one of you doing
it), I'll add two things:
1) I know it's expensive, but I do want to chime in to note that the major
strength of the Cunningham, Malone, and Rothschild book from Oxford is its
terrific grammar section, which contains excellent instructions and a set
of wonderful examples directly geared towards Technical Editing issues. (I
was one reviewer on the text, but otherwise have no investment in it). I do
think it's too expensive, but, if I remember correctly, the Rude/Eaton
wasn't much cheaper...
2) Given the rapidly evolving editing landscape, developing open materials
for specific assignments that work with this landscape seems valuable. If
you will pardon a bit of self-promotion, I've put together online resources
and teaching materials for a Wikipedia project that is the cornerstone of
my Technical Editing syllabus. These have been recently published in Kairos
<https://kairos.technorhetoric.net/29.1/topoi/dicaglio-et-al/>, with the
help of a few students (both undergrads who participated in the assignment
and graduate students who taught it). It also has links out to a GDrive
with teaching documents and a Canvas shell. Happy to have a convo with
anyone interested in teaching using the materials.
Sincerely,
Josh
