Communication and Interactive Media Studies, to start August 2019. Full

*Assistant Professor in Professional/Technical Communication and
Interactive Media Studies. *Assistant Professor for a joint tenure-track
appointment in the Department of English and the program in Interactive
Media Studies (50/50 appointment, tenure home to be determined at time of
hire), to teach courses in Professional Writing and Interactive Media
Studies (including online courses); maintain an active agenda of
scholarship and research; advise students; and provide service to the
institution. Position begins in August 2019.



Require: PhD in rhetoric/composition, professional/technical
writing/communication, digital media production, or closely related field,
by date of appointment; experience teaching technical/professional writing
and communication at the college level.  Applicant must be a U.S. citizen,
a lawful permanent resident, admitted for residence as an applicant under
the 1986 immigration amnesty law, refugee or asylee.  Consideration may be
given to candidates with front-end programming skills (e.g., familiarity
with HTML, CSS, Javascript and/or PHP); as well as teaching experience
and/or research focus in several of these areas: visual rhetoric,
professional/technical writing/communication, digital media production,
mobile design and development, data visualization, usability and UX design,
web and interaction design, and game design or game studies.



This joint appointment offers the opportunity to forge innovative
partnerships across programs in two different colleges. The College of
Creative Arts (CCA), one of the University's five academic divisions,
includes five departments: Architecture/Interior Design, Art, Music, and
Theater. IMS is an innovative degree­-granting program in CCA driven by
emerging interactive technologies and a cohort of collaborative faculty who
build horizontal curriculum and conduct research across campus. (For more

English, located in the College of Arts & Science (CAS), offers
undergraduate degrees in Creative Writing, Linguistics, Literature, and
Professional Writing; BA/MA degrees in Literature; MAs in Composition and
Rhetoric and Literature; a residential and low residency MFA in Creative
Writing; PhDs in Literature and Composition and Rhetoric; and an MAT

English and IMS have long collaborated on curricula and offer several
dual-listed courses. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to
contribute to an established transdisciplinary effort, with award-winning
faculty and strong students, at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.
