*** DESCRIPTION SUMMARY ***

The College of Liberal Arts and the Department of English at Auburn University invite applications and nominations for the Chair of the Department of English to begin August 16, 2020.

The department mission includes research, instruction, service, and outreach in the fields of creative writing, literature, technical & professional communication, and rhetoric & composition studies, and candidates who match or complement one of these four areas are invited to apply.

The Chair’s responsibilities include: participating as a member of the senior administrative team of the College of Liberal Arts; guiding the department regarding research, teaching, and faculty mentorship and development; directing undergraduate and graduate education in the department; and supervising department personnel.

The Department Chair is a full-time, 12-month administrative position; appointment will be for an initial term of 3-5 years that may be renewed contingent upon satisfactory annual reviews and departmental by-laws.

Its instructional and research staff includes tenured, tenure-track, and non-tenure-track faculty, as well as graduate students.


*** MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS ***

Candidates must hold the rank of Full Professor with a terminal degree in a field within English Studies and have significant experience in academic administration in an English Department with multiple subfields.

Candidates must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated effectiveness in leadership and management.

The candidate selected will have academic credentials sufficient to meet rank and tenure eligibility requirements.

Candidates should have a record of outstanding teaching at graduate and undergraduate levels, a strong record of published research or creative work in field, and a commitment to working with diverse groups of students, faculty, and staff to maintain high standards of scholarship, faculty engagement, and education at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
