Subject: Lecturer Position in Professional Writing at UC Davis
To: <attw-l-owner at attw.org>

Greetings!

The UC Davis University Writing Program invites applications for full-time
lecturers to teach advanced undergraduate courses in professional writing.
We especially anticipate needs in business writing, science writing,
engineering writing, technical writing, and writing in the health
professions.

A PhD in Professional and Technical Communication, Rhetoric and
Composition/Writing Studies, or closely related field is preferred. An MA,
MS, or graduate specialization in Professional and Technical Communication
or closely related field will also be considered.

University-level experience in teaching advanced (upper-division) students
in the disciplines or professions; expertise in business writing, medical
writing, science writing, engineering communication, and/or technical
communication; and industry and professional experience is desired. We are
interested in candidates, as well, who have experience teaching hybrid and
online courses and contributing to curriculum and faculty development
projects. Ability to work successfully with a student population that is
linguistically and culturally diverse is also very important.

The University Writing Program (UWP) is committed to teaching a
linguistically and culturally diverse student body and to hiring
instructors who reflect that diversity. This commitment is of particular
importance as UC Davis moves toward becoming a Hispanic Serving Institution.

The UWP offers a Professional Writing Minor

winning writing in the disciplines (WID) and writing in the professions
(WIP) course series

that fulfills an upper-division writing requirement at UC Davis. Lecturers
in this position would teach courses in the series and may also have
opportunities to develop new courses for the Professional Writing Minor and
contribute to the Writing Across the Curriculum Program.

Nine-month appointment beginning in the 2020-2021 academic year. Full-time
teaching load: seven courses over three quarters. Lecturers with 18
quarters of teaching in the program will be eligible to apply for the rank
of Continuing Lecturer; the main criterion for Continuing Lecturer status
is demonstrated excellence in teaching writing.
