*Job Announcement –Assistant Professor in Media and (Dis)Information *

The Department of Communication and Media at Rensselaer Polytechnic
Institute invites applications for a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in
Media Studies or a related field for an appointment beginning Fall 2022.

Applicants must have a Ph.D., Ed.D., or foreign degree equivalent in Media
Studies, Communication, or a closely related field and evidence of
successful collegiate teaching at the time of appointment. The ideal
candidate will have additional training in or collaborative research with
computer science, data science, or data visualization. The department
currently offers a B.S. in Communication, Media & Design, an M.S. in
Communication & Rhetoric, and a Ph.D. in Communication & Rhetoric.

Preferred research interests for this position include disinformation
analysis and detection; media bias; public communication and rhetoric;
media dissemination and representation of science such as climate change or
health; democracy, social justice and equity in algorithmic media; or the
effect of social media enclaves and partisan online communities on
democratic processes.

The successful candidate will teach courses at the undergraduate and
graduate level that reflect their expertise and contribute to the
department’s expansion in the areas of media ethics and public
communication about science. We are particularly interested in scholars who
take an intersectional approach to issues social identity such as gender
identity, socio-economic class, religion, ethnicity, or race.

*Multiple Open-Rank Tenure-Track Positions – Media and Artificial
Intelligence/Machine Learning*

The Department of Communication & Media (C&M) in the School of Humanities,
Arts, and Social Sciences at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute is part of
the search for multiple open-rank, tenure-track positions at the
intersections of Critical Media Studies and Artificial Intelligence/
Machine Learning (AI/ML), with appointments to begin in Fall 2022.
Applicants must have a Ph.D., Ed.D., or foreign degree equivalent at the
time of appointment.

Ideal candidates will be media scholars who are interested in pursuing
collaborative research with AI/ML developers and who will bring a
humanities and social science perspective to AI/ML developments and social
impact. We are interested in scholars who will explore AI/ML as a topic
and/ or method of media analysis. Possible areas of interest may include,
but are not limited to:

·       Media bias (genesis and detection)

·       Misinformation, disinformation, and political discourse

·       Data analysis, public dissemination, and ethics

·       Human-machine interfaces and user experiences

·       Science communication (climate science, medicine)

·       Media privacy and security

beginning in May or August 2022. The ideal candidate will contribute to our
expansion in the area of public communication about science and technology
and, more specifically, the rhetorical, political, and ethical dimensions
of discourse on health and the environment.

Applicants must have a Ph.D., Ed.D., or foreign degree equivalent in
Writing or a closely related area and evidence of successful collegiate
level teaching prior to their appointment. Responsibilities will include
teaching three courses per semester and pursuing an active research
trajectory.
