Subject: [ATTW-L] Visiting Faculty Position

Dear ATTW Colleagues,

I’m pleased to announce that my department received approval to hire two visiting faculty in first-year writing starting August 2022. Please circulate the following job ad to anyone you know who might be interested.

Visiting Faculty of Writing. The Department of Writing at Grand Valley State University seeks to fill a full-time (9-month) Visiting Faculty position beginning August 6, 2022. The ideal candidates will focus their careers on teaching general education first-year writing courses and on continuously developing their professional expertise as writing instructors. An MFA or PhD in Rhetoric/Composition, English, Writing or closely related field is required by time of employment, and graduate coursework in rhetoric and composition is desired. Candidates need to have expertise and experience in teaching college composition in both traditional classrooms and computer labs.

Grand Valley State University offers a unique curricular structure for first-year writing that centers on collaborative portfolio grading and working with imbedded writing center consultants; successful candidates will demonstrate interest in and/or experience with these pedagogical strategies. The typical teaching load is 12-credit hours per semester. Please see the Department of Writing website, https://www.gvsu.edu/writing/first-year-writing-overview-27.htm, for details about our first-year writing courses.

This is a one-year non-tenure track position. This position is designed for candidates planning to seek permanent positions elsewhere. To help Visiting Faculty in their continuing job searches, we provide mentoring, research and conference travel support, and performance reviews. Women, racial and ethnic minorities, individuals with disabilities, and veterans are encouraged to apply.

To apply, send PDFs of a cover letter addressed to the Department of Writing Chair, Christopher Toth, a CV, a statement of teaching philosophy, and a list of at least three references with contact information to tothc at gvsu.edu<mailto:tothc at gvsu.edu>. Review of applications will begin April 20, 2022, and the position will remain open until filled. We plan to conduct online interviews with finalists. The position is contingent on available funding. GVSU is an EO/AA institution.

If you have any questions about the position, please feel free to contact me. Please distribute this job ad to any qualified candidates who may be interested.

Thanks,
Christopher Toth
