We are hiring for a Term Assistant Professor of Professional and Technical Writing at GMU, to start in Fall 2024. This position has a specific focus on teaching AI ethics and architecture.

Here’s a little more about the position:

Responsibilities include teaching ENGH 210: Equitable AI as well as our core undergraduate course in professional and technical writing (English 388). There may be opportunities to teach additional technical communication courses at the undergraduate level. Annual appointments will depend on budget and performance. The incumbent may be asked to teach courses in person and/or in distance format depending on department needs.

Teaching responsibilities include:

  *   Teaching assigned courses in accordance with faculty expectations as outlined in the workload policy and George Mason faculty handbook;
  *   Typical instructional workload is 4 courses per semester, with the option to teach over the summer;
  *   Teaching modalities will include in-person, online, and hybrid courses;
  *   Teaching current tools and approaches to Artificial Intelligence (AI) and related coding and architecture to humanities students for the purposes of studying and understanding ethical and equitable uses of AI; and
  *   Teaching practices in professional and technical communication current to contemporary discussions in scholarship and practice.
Department Service responsibilities include:

  *   Participates in professional associations relevant to technical communication, the teaching of writing, information technology, or related fields; and
  *   Advises students on academic and professional issues while providing referrals to resources when appropriate.
