[ATTW-L] study on the adaption of tech comm practices to the FYW classroom

Greetings everyone,

I'm interested in collecting data on how practices usually associated with
the tech comm classroom (visual analysis, content management, etc.) get
adapted for use in other writing classrooms. While I'd like to focus
specifically on first-year writing (FYW), I'd still like to hear about
other adaptions in other contexts as well. A good example of what this
adaption would look like is Jeffrey Bacha's (2016) turn to user-centered
design as a way to creatively rethink the final course project in a FYW
course.

Furthermore, I'm going to be putting together a sort of survey and/or
briefly structured interview, one that asks questions like: how have your
experiences as a tech comm scholar impacted your practice as a teacher of
FYW? Or, in what ways will the skills and/or practices of tech comm
scholars become important to teachers of FYW in the years to come?
Obviously, tech comm's importance will be felt largely in terms of research
methodology and instructional design. But I'm mostly curious about
pedagogy. How might the practices of technical communicators be
repurposable to other contexts wherein writing is taught? Should they be?
Is it feasible? and so on. (I'd still like to hear about non-pedagogical
adaptions, but pedagogy is my focus for now.)

That said, if you'd like to take part in my study, or alert me to the
presence of an article I should know about, you can hit me up off list at
drake.gossi at gmail.com. I'll be talking to people at both ATTW and 4Cs. I'll
be there all week. The interviews will be very brief--no more than five,
easy-to-answer questions. Talk to me!

Best,
Drake
